Background[]
Fifth Harmony began "working on a more mature sound" 7/27 in early 2015. On December 11, Lauren Jauregui teased "The Life" for the first time during an interview with Spin.
The song was co-written by Tinashe. 5H’s Lauren Jauregui discussed the collaboration in an interview.
Lauren: She has really sick melody flows and lyrics. It’s very cohesive with us. It’s drawing from the same experience. That’s what’s important at the end of the day: having an authentic sound and having someone who understands what we’re going through.[1]
The song was written by singer Tinashe, Alexander Kronlund, and Lukas Hilbert.[2] It was released as the 7/27's first promotional single on March 24, 2016.
